Cy Pres Awards

Healthcare Worker Providing Patient Care

United Ways of Tennessee accepts cy pres awards and is grateful for the support that these awards contribute to our state.

CY PRESS AWARDS: Cy Pres is a doctrine that permits a court to award any unallocated, unclaimed, or undeliverable funds from a settlement or judgement to a non-profit organization. As a statewide non-profit organization, United Ways of Tennessee is eligible to receive nominations and awards for cy pres funding.

United Ways of Tennessee is an ideal choice for a cy pres award. Cy pres awards can directly support the work of United Ways of Tennessee. If you’re involved in a legal settlement, please consider directing a cy pres award to United Ways of Tennessee. These awards make a big difference in improving the lives of people in communities throughout the state.

Connection to many classes: Because the United Ways of Tennessee works to bridge people, local United Ways, and resources so individuals, families and communities thrive in Tennessee, in many substantive areas (such as employment, housing, disaster recovery and prevention, community resilience, health and well-being, and education), we have a nexus to most types of class action cases. To help support our mission through cy pres, please add the United Ways of Tennessee to your firm’s list of eligible cy pres recipients. Interested in making a cy pres award? Please contact Mary Graham, President and CEO, at mary.graham@uwtn.org, if you have any questions about the United Ways of Tennessee’s work or the cy pres process.

With these awards, United Way could fund programs to create healthy communities, support youth opportunities and make financial security possible for families in our neighborhoods. This support would provide emergency assistance through 211 and emergency disaster programs when it’s needed most. It would help children access nutritious food. It would go towards advocating for better job opportunities and housing. And it would reduce homelessness and expand educational resources.
